Welcome to Orient, Iowa! Poplulation 408

On June 7, 1869, The official organization of Orient Township occurred., known as Dayton Township at that time, but through petitions to the supervisors, the name was changed shortly after. Some believed it was changed to Orient because the county seat of Summerset, which is Fontanelle, had already been established and since "Orient" meant "to the East" they were referring to "East of Summerset."

Orient was filed for record March 12, 1879 by Charles E. Perkins.

 

 

THE MORMON TRAIL

In July of 1846 fifteen thousand Mormans were said to be encomped for loiling westward along Iowa trails. They were on the way to a new homeland in the Salt Lake Valley.

HENRY AGARD WALLACE

The family heritage of Henry A. Wallace, born October 9, 1888, on a farm five miles northeast of teh town of Orient, in Orient township, goes back to early 1800.
